Commercial Lock Box Program

In accordance with the City Municipal Code 15.35.050 (11) and as a means of providing emergency access to structures, the fire department may utilize a Key Box rapid entry system.

A Key Box shall be installed on structures of 4,000 square feet or larger and on structures deemed by the Fire Chief or his designee to pose a difficult entry problem.

Exception: Buildings constructed before 1997 are exempt from this standard, however a Key Box system may be present and retrofitting is recommended.

For commercial properties, the Key Box is to be mounted to the left of the primary entrance to the occupancy, on the addressed side of the building. The Key Box shall be located no higher than 6 feet from grade. Exceptions from this standard are to be approved by the Fire Chief and the location is to be noted on the master list.

Residential Lock Box Program

The department has authorized the exclusive use of Supra lock boxes for residential applications.

For residential properties, the Key Box is to be mounted to the left of the primary entrance or hung over the top of the primary entrance door.
